We need lots of helpers on the Carfax by-election day, 4 Sept. 2014. Please take the day off work and come and help.
Ruthi Brandt won Carfax for the Green Party in May. Now that the other councillor has resigned, we have a chance of making Carfax a ward with 2 Green councillors, like St. Mary's.
In May, a lot of students voted for us. On 4th September only the permanent residents and postgraduate students will be around. If we can get them to go to the polls and vote for us, we can win: if not this time, in 2016. But too many people give up on politics, don't vote, and leave it to others. We have to make sure all our supporters get to the polls this time.
We need people on the day to:
- Telephone or visit green voters to remind them to get to their polling station.
(In 2013 we lost a seat by 27 votes when our voters stayed at home.) - Help voters get to the polls
(from giving lifts to baby sitting). - Sit outside polling stations smiling at voters and writing down voter numbers.
- Help at our committee roomsÂ
(from making tea and coffee to entering data into computers). - In the evening, as the ballots are opened, tally the votes
(so we know where people are voting green).
In the weeks leading up to the election, we need people to knock on doors to find Green Party voters, and to deliver leaflets and letters.
Please come to Oxford to help.
When you RSVP below, you will then be sent to a page to indicate your preferences in how you can help. Please complete that page. We will get back to you with specific details about when and where you can help up to and on 4th September.
