Significant reduction in Oxford’s air pollution after cleaner buses introduced – but city still has toxic air in some streets

Cllr Craig Simmons says,

"Progress on improving air quality has been painfully slow and we have seen a worsening of air quality in some parts of the City. With such slow progress we are a long way off become a zero emission City (ZEZ). We also suspect that these average figures for 2017 mask significant increases around the Westgate following the re-opening of the Westgate Car Park and the expanded Oxpens Car Park. This only occurred in the last few months of 2017. Green Councillors have been asking for detailed data for some months but have not yet received it. Furthermore, the ZEZ will not even cover polluted streets such as St. Clement's which is still well above the legal limit."
