Oxfordshire Green Party will be supporting Oxford Trades Council and Action for Rail as part of a nationwide protest at Oxford rail station against fare increases and privatization. Similar picketing is taking place at rail stations throughout the Country. The Rail Action Day is from 8am on Monday 4th January at Oxford Rail Station. Councillor David Williams is Green Party leader on Oxfordshire County Council and a member of Oxford Trades Council. He comments:
"The Green Party wants our railways re-nationalised and rail ticket prices reduced. We cannot hope to fight climate change unless we increase the use of our railways by providing cheaper and better services.
"Oxfordshire Green Party strongly supports investment in re-opening the Witney to Oxford rail line as an alternative to dualling the A40. In the long-term, we wish to see the complete line from Witney to Oxford, Cowley and Wheatley re-opened as a major contribution to reducing traffic movements through Oxford."
