Green councillors Chris Jarvis and Lois Muddiman succceeded in passing a motion on water at Oxford City Council at the end of January, listing the failures of Thames Water in terms of river pollution and inadequate supply to meet housing needs. The motion commits the council to press the government to tackle the problem of sewage and water supply and bring the country's water system into public ownership.
For the last year, Green Party members have taken part in events across the county to protest against sewage pollution in the rivers and demand that Thames Water cleans up its act. At the latest event at the end of January, Greens across the county took and active part. Below are Kat Foxhall speaking in Faringdon (with James Brooks) and Cllr Lucy Pegg at Wolvercote bathing place in Oxford (with Red Rebels in the background). Lucy called for the water companies to be brought back into public ownership.
