Council meetings are open to the public. During the Covid-19 crisis they have gone online. You can watch the Oxfordshire County Council meeting online.
- Read the agenda, then
- on 8 September, watch them online at https://oxon.cc/Council08092020
There are 2 big issues on the agenda that will interest Green supporters.
- Oxfordshire County Council is making cuts to its budget, as central government has not covered all the extra costs of coping with Covid-19. These cuts disproportionately affect climate action as you can see in the detailed report. Everything to deal with the climate crisis has been put off for a year, including work on air quality, public transport, local cycling and walking, electric cars, carbon zero action plan for council properties - while expecting increased road building
- A motion on the South Oxfordshire District Plan (doubling the houses in the district) that has been forced through by Robert Jenrick and a planning inspector despite opposition from the Green/Lib. Dem. administration that took over in 2019 after local residents voted to stop over-development.
Take a look at what happens in a council meeting. What do councils do? What do you think of the councillors? Could Green councillors do better?
