Watch a council meeting

Council meetings are open to the public. During the Covid-19 crisis they have gone online. You can watch the Oxfordshire County Council meeting online.

There are 2 big issues on the agenda that will interest Green supporters.

  1. Oxfordshire County Council is making cuts to its budget, as central government has not covered all the extra costs of coping with Covid-19. These cuts disproportionately affect climate action as you can see in the detailed report. Everything to deal with the climate crisis has been put off for a year, including work on air quality, public transport, local cycling and walking, electric cars, carbon zero action plan for council properties - while expecting increased road building
  2. A motion on the South Oxfordshire District Plan (doubling the houses in the district) that has been forced through by Robert  Jenrick and a planning inspector despite opposition from the Green/Lib. Dem. administration that took over in 2019 after local residents voted to stop over-development.

Take a look at what happens in a council meeting. What do councils do? What do you think of the councillors? Could Green councillors do better?

The whole process involving Blenheim Estates, Cherwell Council, the developer, the planning officer and Jenrick has been deeply corrupt. A judicial review is needed.
