This evening, Oxford City Council passed a motion proposed by Green Councillor Craig Simmons (and seconded by new Green Councillor and fossil fuel divestment campaigner Ruthi Brandt) to adopt a comprehensive set of ethical investment principles.

At this week's meeting of Oxford City Council, Labour failed to support a motion from Green Councillors which sought to guarantee continued leisure uses on the re-developed Temple Cowley Pool site.

Following a failed attempt by the Greens and the Fossil Free Oxfordshire Campaign to get the County Council to adopt an ethical investment policy (the motion was voted down by Labour, the Tories and most Liberal Democrats), the Greens are attempting at Full Council today (14th July 2014) to convince the City Council to take a different view.

The Greens are presenting a motion to Council today, 14th July, in an attempt to secure a commitment to the retention of leisure facilities on the Temple Cowley Pool site following the Labour administration's decision to sell the land.

Green Councillors on the City Council and the County Council are not crossing the picket lines in the current strike and support the local authority workers action. The Greens have also cancelled their monthly meeting at the Town Hall and will be actively avoiding County Hall all day.

An attempt to remove County Council investment in fossil fuel companies is to be made at the Tuesday’s County Council meeting.

GREENS SAY OXFORDSHIRE’S LIVING WAGE SHOULD BE THE SAME AS LONDON’S

In a major policy change, Oxfordshire Green Party at its June meeting accepted a proposal from Green Party County Council leader David Williams that Oxfordshire should have the same Living Wage level as London.

Oxfordshire Green Party has endorsed the climate change and flooding petition which is being promoted by the Oxfordshire Climate and Flooding Alliance. This petition, to go to David Cameron both as Prime Minister and an Oxfordshire MP, says:

At both the recent local and Euro elections the Greens polled second, behind Labour, across Oxford City clearly establishing themselves as the City's second party.

Green Party leader on Oxfordshire County Council, David Williams, is calling for public support for the Fossil Free Future demonstration. This is being held on Saturday 31st May, assembling at the Radcliffe Camera, Radcliffe Square, 11.00am, for a march to Bonn Square.
