Reacting to the sad news of the death of Prince Philip, Green Group Council Leader, Cllr Craig Simmons, spoke on BBC Radio last night. Cllr Simmons had met Prince Philip in 2005 when he was invited to a reception at Buckingham Palace to receive a Queen's Award as director of the Oxford-based sustainability consultancy he co-founded.
"You don't have to be a royalist to acknowledge Prince Philip's significant contribution to nature conservation and wildlife protection. He was the founding president of the Worldwide Fund for Nature (which became WWF), wrote a number of books on the state of the environment and, of course, through the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme introduced many young people to the great outdoors."
