Sam Burnett 2025 County Council Candidate for Banbury Calthorpe

Sam Burnett — Green Party Candidate for Banbury Calthorpe

A fresh voice for a fairer, greener Banbury

About Sam

Sam Burnett is standing to be the next Green Party County Councillor for Banbury Calthorpe because he cares deeply about this community and wants to help shape a better, fairer future for everyone who lives here.

Sam is 31 years old, born in Australia, and moved to England in 2018. He settled in Banbury in 2020 — a place he now proudly calls home. Sam has been married for five years and has quickly become an active and engaged member of the local community.

“I was welcomed into Banbury with warmth and generosity,” Sam says. “Now I want to give something back — by standing up for local people and working hard to make our town greener, fairer, and better connected.”

Community-Minded with Real-Life Experience

Sam works at Oxford Brookes University as an Inclusive Support Administrator — helping students of all backgrounds and abilities access the support they need to succeed.

Before this, Sam worked at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford and as a News Executive for the communications company Cision. He holds a degree in Journalism with a major in Public Relations from Griffith University (Australia), and understands the importance of clear, honest communication — something he feels is often missing from local politics.

Alongside his work, Sam volunteers every week with Rainbows, part of the Girlguiding movement, helping to support and mentor young people. He believes in building stronger communities from the ground up — supporting young people, volunteering, and creating spaces where everyone feels they belong.

Why Sam is Standing for the Green Party

Sam believes Banbury needs a new kind of councillor — someone who listens, is visible and accessible, and is committed to standing up for ordinary residents over party politics.

“As a Green Party councillor, I’ll work hard to make sure local people’s voices are heard,” says Sam. “Politics should be about service — about making life better for the community, not just following party lines.”

Sam’s priorities for Banbury Calthorpe are shaped by what local people have told him really matters:

Sam’s Priorities for Banbury Calthorpe

1 Fair, Sustainable Development — Infrastructure Before Expansion

Banbury is growing — but development must work for local people, not against them. Sam will fight to ensure that any new housing comes with the schools, GP access, transport links and green spaces that communities need to thrive.

Too often, development happens first — and infrastructure is left struggling to catch up. Sam believes in building communities, not just estates.

2. Common-Sense Rubbish and Recycling

Sam wants to see a simpler, clearer recycling system that makes it easier for residents to do the right thing. Rubbish collection and recycling should be consistent, logical, and environmentally responsible — without leaving residents confused or inconvenienced.

3. Better Roads and Safer Streets

From potholes to poorly maintained footpaths, Sam knows that Banbury’s roads need attention. He will campaign for investment in road repairs, safer pedestrian crossings, and better cycling and walking routes — making Banbury safer for everyone, however they travel.

4. A Councillor Who is Visible and Accountable

Sam believes councillors should be available and accountable to the people they represent — not just at election time, but all year round.

If elected, Sam will:

  • Hold regular local drop-ins and listening events
  • Communicate openly about council decisions
  • Be easy to contact and quick to respond

5. A Greener, Fairer Banbury

As a Green Party candidate, Sam believes climate action must start locally. That means protecting green spaces, promoting active travel (walking and cycling), improving public transport, and ensuring local policies support both people and planet.

A Fresh Voice for Banbury Calthorpe

Sam is standing because he believes Banbury deserves better.

Better representation. Better decisions. A better future.

“As your councillor, I’ll listen. I’ll work hard. And I’ll put people before party politics every single time.”

Banbury Calthorpe deserves a councillor who lives locally, listens carefully, and stands up for what matters.

On May 1st — vote Sam Burnett, Green Party — for a fairer, greener Banbury.
