Proposals for a 150-bed hotel in central Oxford should be opposed, say the
Greens, and the site use for much needed housing.
The local Green Party have come out against proposal by the Dominvs Group
to build a large, luxury, four star hotel on the site of the old Cooper
Callas building next to the Castle Site.
The site is ideally located for housing and could provide more than 50
desperately-needed apartments, at least half of which could be affordable.
The proposal, welcomed by the Council Leader (Oxford Mail 4th July), comes
hot on the heels of the controversial Westgate plans which were passed
without the inclusion of any affordable homes.
Says Green Party spokesperson Steve Dawe, "We have the least affordable
housing in the Country and limited City centre land suitable for
development. The fact that the council are even considering this proposal
shows their lack of interest in seriously addressing Oxford's housing crisis".
