A Green Party idea, first mooted by Oxford's Green Councillors more than a decade ago when Oxford was declared an Air Quality Management Area due to its appalling air pollution, has been shortlisted for an award.
Says Green Cllr Ruthi Brandt, shadow Portfolio Holder for the environment:
It is great to get this sort of recognition but the Low Emission Zone needs to continuously evolve if it is address Oxford's ongoing air pollution problems - which remain serious. The current LEZ needs to cover a broader range of vehicles and the Council needs to tighten up the planning process to avoid developments that will make the air quality worse.
