Outrage as Oxford City Council agree to development of unsustainable social housing

Following the cancellation of the meeting of Full Council on 30th March due to coronavirus, Oxford City Council's Labour Group have independently taken the decision to ignore the recommendations of the Oxford Citizen's Assembly on Climate Change and the Council's own Scrutiny Committee [1] and Climate Emergency Review Group and agree to the development of unsustainable social housing in Blackbird Leys.
The Assembly, Scrutiny Committee and Review Group had all recommended that all new social housing should be built to very high 'passivhaus' environmental standards to reduce carbon emissions and lower utility bills for residents.
Says Green Councillor Craig Simmons who is a member of Scrutiny Committee and the Climate Emergency Review Group, "Labour made a commitment to listen to the Citizen's Assembly and the recommendations of the Climate Emergency Review Group. The next decade is critical if we are to tackle climate change. The Council are simply not taking the threat of climate change seriously."
