A new 'Poisoned Playgrounds' map from ClientEarth shows that children at a number of Oxford schools are exposed to unsafe levels of pollution. Note surprisingly, many of the worst affected schools are in the City Centre or on routes into the centre. See the map here: https://www.clientearth.org/poisoned-playgrounds/
The City Council's response? To increase the number of City centre car parking spaces and reduce car parking charges. Both are making the situation worse.
Says Cllr Dick Wolff, Green transport spokesperson and Councillor for one of the affected schools, "The Council cannot go on talking about air pollution whilst making planning and policy decisions which make the situation worse."
