Greens send solidarity to the budget day strike
18 March 2013
On Wednesday 20th, while George Osborne is announcing the government's budget, workers from the PCS union will be on strike in defence of people's livelihoods and job security.
This budget will detail the next round in the Tory austerity programme that is wrecking the economy and communities across the country. In Oxfordshire, we are already seeing services stretched and people struggling to afford the costs of living.
Green councillors in Oxford have sent the following message of solidarity to workers taking strike action:
The government's austerity programme is an attack on public services, jobs and our communities. The continued cuts to funding are causing ever more reductions in the provision of public services, undermining job security for public sector workers and leaving vulnerable people in our communities without the services that they need, from legal aid to social care to children's centres.
Green Councillors in Oxford send their support and solidarity to PCS members taking strike action on Wednesday in defence of job security and livelihoods.
On the 20th, there will be PCS picket lines outside the Jobcentre at Gloucester Green in Oxford from 7.30am and at the jobcentre in Witney from 8am, and a budget day protest 12:30pm in Bonn Square, Oxford.
