Oxford City Council opposes any new airport NW of London

10 October 2012

At the Oxford City Council meeting on Monday 1st October 2012, all but one councillor voted in favour of a motion opposing the development of a new airport NW of London along the high-speed rail line, that is being proposed by a business consortium.

It was proposed by the Green group, whose leader David Williams said: “A Heathrow-sized airport in Oxfordshire would be a disaster. It is unnecessary, environmentally damaging, and would bring greater pollution and disturbance to the area.”

It got support from all parties in the council. In the vote at the end, there was only one councillor against, everyone else was in favour.
