Oxfordshire Green Party members will be joining the People’s Climate March in London on Sunday 21st September, along with thousands of others. This march is one of 900 such events worldwide about the World Leaders' Climate Summit in New York this September.
The demonstration starting at 12:30pm Temple Place (Embankment) emphasises the economic advantages of dealing with climate change, not just the real risks it presents to our weather patterns. Steve Dawe comments:
“New research indicates that if we reduce the UK’s carbon emissions by around 60% by 2030 this would increase UK GDP by 1.1%; create a minimum of 190,000 additional jobs in the UK economy; mean households are financially better off compared to a scenario where little is done to reduce emissions.
“My wife and I, who are both going on Sunday’s march, are examples of how this can happen. In the last year we have added extra insulation to our loft, improved carpeting which also adds to insulation and will be shortly getting solar panels on our roof. The more households and enterprises take this approach to reducing future energy bills, the more UK greenhouse gas emissions can be reduced."
