Hinksey Park by-election mass action day

A by-election has been called in Hinksey Park on Thursday 29 September, following the sudden resignation of a Labour City Councillor. Labour’s sitting Councillor resigned after being selected as a parliamentary candidate for Penistone and Stocksbridge over 100 miles away in South Yorkshire.

The Green Party is fighting to win this by-election, but we can only do it with your help. We don't have the money or the wealthy backers of the other parties. We rely on the hard work and graft of people like you.

Green Councillors in Oxford are making a real difference. In the last year, Greens have pushed the city council to adopt a pioneering policy on trans rights. Our Councillors have secured a commitment from the Council to roll out a scheme of free period products. And we've been at the heart of efforts to clean up transport - pushing for low traffic neighbourhoods and better active travel infrastructure.

But there's only so much six Greens can do. That's why it's vital more Greens are elected.

The Hinksey Park by-election will be taking place on September 29.

Our candidate is Alex Powell. Alex is a Lecturer in Law at Oxford Brookes University and a resident of Oxford. A dedicated trade unionist, Alex is an active member of the UCU trade union at Brookes.

Alex is passionate about tackling social injustice and inequality both in Oxford and across the country - as well as campaigning for the radical action needed to address the climate crisis.

In May, we came second in the seat, without an active campaign - so this seat is certainly winnable. But to get there we need your support more than ever.

By joining us for a day of leafleting and canvassing, you can help reach hundreds of voters with the Green message, and help get Alex elected to Oxford City Council. There will be a briefing before the campaigning session so whether you've never campaigned in an election before, are a canvassing expert or anything in between, your time will be incredibly valuable. You can also choose to either canvas or deliver - whatever you'd feel most comfortable with.
