At this week's budget meeting (20/2/2017), Oxford's Green Councillors withdrew their support from the City's Capital Budget programme after their amendment to divert the £4m set aside for the Seacourt Park & Ride expansion to community facilities, environmental project and homelessness provision was rejected by the ruling City's Labour administration.
During an impassioned speech, set against the backdrop of a Council fighting for its very existence, Cllr Craig Simmons said: "...if the Council were to disappear in a few years time what would you want our legacy to be; 
more tarmac for parking cars or better community facilities, homeless accommodation and reduced carbon emissions?"
The Greens have pledged to carry on fighting against the decision. Says Cllr Simmons, "Until the money is spent, we have a chance to change the Council's mind. Spending that amount of money on car park expansion and, at the same time, selling off community facilities and failing the City's homeless is not something we can accept."
