The Greens are presenting a motion to Council today, 14th July, in an attempt to secure a commitment to the retention of leisure facilities on the Temple Cowley Pool site following the Labour administration's decision to sell the land.
The motion, proposed by Cllr Dick Wolff, specifically asks for the continuation of leisure facilities on the site, a financial contribution (if required) by the Council to secure this as part of any re-development and a commitment to consult with local residents on the nature of any provision.
Says Cllr Wolff, who works in Cowley, "The Council's own planning policies (Core Strategy 21) states that planning permission that leads to the loss of leisure facilities will only be granted if there is no overall loss in provision. Yet, in the Cowley area we have already seen the closure of the Morris Motors Club, the Cowley Community Centre and the Parish Halls on Between Towns Road. We can ill afford to lose more facilities on the well-located Pool site."
