Sadly, it is not an April Fool joke. From 1st April, Oxford City Council have increased concessionary ‘Bonus’ rates (those aimed at making leisure accessible for the poorest) for use of its leisure facilities.
For example, a swim session that previously cost £1:30 is now £1:50 or £2 at peak times (4-8pm).
Says Green Councillor Craig Simmons; “The Council claims to care about the health of those on low incomes. Yet, at the same time it is introducing inflation plus increases in concessionary leisure fees. The Greens are asking for these increased charges to be reversed.”
