Oxford's Green Councillors have condemned the decision by the Labour-run Council, announced today, to shut down the popular and successful Blue Bin Recycling League. Green Cllr Craig Simmons said, "The Blue Bin League is an integral part of Oxford's efforts to increase recycling rates by improving education and providing an incentive to recycle.
"Over the past five years the scheme has been running, one in three households has benefited from their work and 45 community groups and charities from the funds raised. This is a very poor decision that will have a detrimental environmental impact. It was a cost-efficient scheme to run... its loss shows how little the Council genuinely cares about waste minimisation."
