Greens back firefighters strike

Oxfordshire Green Party backs the 24 hour strike called by the Fire Brigades Union. Councillor David Williams, leader of the Green Group on Oxfordshire County Council explains:“The Coalition Government is engaged in a general attack on public services. Having cut £35 billion from public services mainly as a result failing to raise a range of taxes, and cutting taxes on the highest incomes, the Conservatives favour a further £55 bn in cuts from 2015 onwards.

Firefighters in England will be on a 24 hour strike from 09.00am on Tuesday 9th December. This is because of the Government decision to start work on regulations for an unfair, unaffordable and unworkable pension scheme.

“Greens support the Firefighters call for genuine negotiations on this matter, and for Government recognition of the value the public place upon our firefighters.”
