Oxford’s plans for zero emissions zone in tatters say Greens. Greens are holding Labour-run Oxford City Council to account over their poor handling of the Westgate development - which is already undermining plans, launched just two weeks ago, to introduce a zero emission zone to combat Oxford’s dire air quality problem.
We are already seeing evidence of increased traffic - and associated pollution - as a result of the Westgate opening facilitated by the City Council’s decision to increase parking capacity in the City Centre and reduce car parking charges.
Despite talk of encouraging shoppers to use the Park & Rides, which always was the case anyway, we have seen signs up around the City directing drivers to the City Centre.
Says Green transport spokesperson Cllr Dick Wolff "It is difficult to take seriously talk of a zero emission zone when the City Council are, at the same time, increasing parking capacity and cutting parking charges in the very same part of the City where a zero emission zone has been mooted."
