Next week the Council's City Executive Board (11th Feb 5pm) will be deciding whether to extend licencing in the private rented sector - an idea first promoted by former Chair of the Council's Housing Panel, Green Cllr Sam Hollick.
The City currently only licences houses in multiple occupation (HMOs) meaning that dodgy landlords letting out other homes don't need a license so the problems they cause tenants can't be as easily tackled. It also implies that bad landlords only rent out HMOs.
Says Green Cllr Sam Hollick; "All tenants, not just those in HMOs, need protection from rogue letting agents and landlords and deserve to have decent quality accommodation."
