We are still dealing with the worst financial crash since the 1930s, with record youth unemployment, drastic cuts to public services and increasing inequality. Yet somehow, ‘There Is No Alternative’ has become the public mantra once again. Part of the reason for this is the widespread repetition by politicians and the media of a number of key economic myths; things like ‘There’s no more money left’ or ‘We have to cut spending to reduce the deficit’.
Join us for an introductory session on Economic Mythbusting, which will be run by Sarah who took a New Economics Foundation (nef) course earlier this year on how we can start to tackle these myths.
nef and the Tax Justice Network polled dozens of campaigners to find out which economic myths were the most problematic. They then paired prominent journalists and economists to write guides on how to debunk them. These guides formed the core content of the course, and this will be a taster session to see if we want to develop it further.
The session will be at Restore, Manzil Way, Oxford on Wednesday November 20th, from 7 to 9 pm. If you are interested, let Sarah know here, and also if you would like some pre-session reading.
