Derisory fines will not stop rogue landlords say Greens

Green Party City Housing Spokesperson Cllr Sam Hollick has reacted angrily to the derisory fines and costs being awarded against rogue landlords who are breaching the City's HMO licensing scheme requirements.

Says Cllr Hollick,

"The fines and costs awarded in cases like these barely amount to one months rent and often less than the HMO registration fee. The cost to the Council of bringing these cases to court is rarely recovered in full. The Courts need to bear this in mind when determining these cases."

The Greens have committed to bringing this up at the next meeting of Oxford City Council.
