Council's PSPO 'concessions' do not go far enough say Greens

Following the lack of consensus at 6th October Council Scrutiny Committee over the recent changes to the Council's Public Spaces Protection Order, the Greens are saying that the concessions made to date by the Council do not go far enough.

The key issues remain over plans in the PSPO to criminalise certain forms of busking and begging.

The Greens understand that campaign group Liberty, which led to the postponement of the decision last time it was due to be heard by the Council's ruling Executive, are similarly not satisfied with the extent of the changes.

Says Green Council David Thomas, a member of the Council's PSPO Review Panel: "For the Council to sanction the fining of beggars is absurd. We should be helping these people not making them poorer!"
