Ian Middleton
Green Party Candidate for Kidlington East
Oxfordshire County Council Elections – May 1st 2025
A Strong, Independent Voice for Kidlington East
I’m Ian Middleton — a long-standing local campaigner, business owner, and councillor who has been proud to call Kidlington and the surrounding area my home for over 30 years.
I moved to this part of Oxfordshire in 1993 with my wife Fiona and built a small retail business in Oxford that grew into a national chain of stores. These days, I work as a business writer and consultant — but my real passion lies in standing up for local people and protecting the things that matter most to our community.
Since joining the Green Party in 2012, I’ve worked hard to protect our green spaces, defend local services, and make sure residents have a strong, independent voice on the issues that affect their daily lives.
Standing Up for Kidlington
As your Green Party County Councillor for the area known as Kidlington South, covering Kidlington, Gosford, Yarnton and Begbroke, I’ve already spent years representing our communities on both Cherwell District Council and Oxfordshire County Council.
I’ve campaigned tirelessly to:
-
Protect Kidlington’s Green Belt from speculative development
-
Improve flood defences and protect our environment
-
Support genuinely affordable housing that meets local needs
-
Defend our NHS from privatisation and funding cuts
-
Promote safer walking and cycling routes
-
Support better public transport and protect vital local services
Kidlington faces real challenges — from overdevelopment and increasing traffic, to pressure on GP services and growing threats to our green spaces. I’ve been on the front line of these battles, working alongside residents and parish councils to make sure your voice is heard.
Why I’m Standing Again
This year due to the planned increase in housing developments in the division of Kidlington South, it has been split into two Kidlington East and Kidlington West. In the newly formed Kidlington West Division, Green Party Candidate Fiona Mawson is the only truly local candidate, while I’m standing for re-election to Kidlington East because I believe Kidlington deserves councillors who puts people before politics — someone who lives locally, knows the issues, and will fight your corner.
As a Green councillor, I don’t take instructions from party whips or follow the old two-party lines. My loyalty is to the people I represent.
Our area needs a councillor who will:
-
Stand up to overdevelopment that threatens Kidlington’s character
-
Campaign for affordable, sustainable homes — not just commuter estates
-
Protect local health services, GP access, and NHS provision
-
Work for greener, safer transport solutions
-
Defend public services from cuts and fight for a fairer, more sustainable future for everyone
A Record of Action, A Voice You Can Trust
I’ve never been a career politician. I got involved in politics because I care about our community — our environment, our services, and our future.
I’ve served on three parish councils as well as both the District and County Councils — gaining a real understanding of how local government works, and how to get things done.
I’m proud to be standing for the Green Party — a party that puts people and planet first, supports fairness and social justice, and believes in protecting what makes our area special.
