Last night Richard Scrase, the Green Party candidate for Carfax, backed the Covered Market traders at hustings at Oxford Town Hall.
He pointed out that the increase set by the arbitrator was fair, so the council should accept that.
Then there are ways of improving the Covered Market. Right now visitors can walk past and not notice it is there. So make a special entrance, with the pavement extended in the road outside.
There are a number of pots of money that could be used to improve the market, or be used by traders to expand their business. Oxford City Council needs to re-employ a development worker, to help traders apply for external funds, in addition to what Oxford City Council can do.
And he said how we needed to back local small businesses and keep national chains out of the Covered Market, enforcing the existing policy.
