Natalie Bennet, Green Party leader to open Green Fair on the 1st of December
27 November 2012
The new national leader of the Green Party Natalie Bennett will make her first public appearance in Oxford when she opens the Winter Green Fair on Saturday 1 December.
Natalie Bennett will speak at the opening of the Fair at Oxford Town Hall at 10.30am. She commented:
"This is my first formal engagement in Oxford, although I've been a regular private visitor many times for conferences and events, and to use the stupendous Bodleian library.
The fair is a chance to celebrate the season with home- and artisan-made products, made, often locally, in a sustainable way a step towards building the kind of jobs-rich economy we need for our low-carbon future."
The Fair is organised by Oxfordshire Green Party, and is now in its 32nd year. It has grown to over 100 stalls making it one of the largest indoor events of its kind in the country. Goods on sale are locally or ethically
made and fairly traded, and range from vegan candles and recycled clothes, to art and jewellery and Christmas gifts.
The fair also features green technologies, such as solar panels and green roofs, and highlights the work of national and local campaigning groups. Music and entertainment is on offer throughout the day, including a Green
Father Christmas. Volunteers staff the café selling home-made vegetarian and vegan food.
The Green Fair is open to the public from 10.30am to 4.30pm, and entry is £1 (20p concessions), children free.
