Kevin McGlynn, Green Party candidate for Churchill

Biography

Originally from Canada, I have lived in the UK for the last 11 years, raising two boys with my wife whom is an academic. We first moved to Oxford from Canada in 2005, and after 4 years in Cambridge, we wanted to move back to Oxford to settle our growing family.

My work at the University involves raising the profile and impact of Cancer research conducted here in Oxford. When not at work, I’m raising my sons, coaching or volunteering with various sporting clubs or charity events. I enjoy personal sporting endeavours such as football and ice hockey, or hiking and cycling with my family.

I look forward to the opportunity to work with the members of my community to give everyone the access and opportunity to live a healthy and fulfilling life.

Why do you want to stand for election?

Helping my neighbours flourish

I believe in the vision of the Green party manifesto and representing my community. In particular, I’m dedicated to:

- #freeEducation- promoting quality education to every child in our community. I feel strongly that all children deserve an equal opportunity to access quality education.

- #decentHomes and a #fairEconomy - providing essential access to all members of our community. A living wage and access to affordable homes are a basic requirement that all communities must provide. I will work to ensure that all members of our community receive these opportunities in a fair and equitable manner.

A community that plays together, grows stronger together

I have seen the positive impact of an active lifestyle (both physically and socially) for the old and young, the ill and able-bodied, and will promote the benefits of an active lifestyle in my community. I feel it’s important that we all have opportunities to engage with each others outside of our homes, be that a charity fundraising walk, a cycling club, or a community picnic. Everyone deserves the chance to reap the benefits of being active  and connected with their neighbours and local community in a manner that is supportive for all “walks of life”.

Helping others

I have a history of campaigning, fundraising and promoting awareness for a range of causes close to my heart, including mental health, family hospices, and long-term care for the terminally ill. I think it’s important that no one is forgotten or excluded in our community and that care and attention is advocated and provided to the most vulnerable members of our society.
