Greens back call for a County referendum on services

Councillor Sam Coates (Green Party, University Parks), comments on the problems facing Oxfordshire's councillors in stopping irresponsible cuts and ensuring maintenance of basic services:

"Today's motion from the Labour group shows a growing cross-party agreement on the need to ask Oxfordshire's residents to consider chipping in an extra few pounds per month to save local services for the most vulnerable of our neighbours.

This comes after the Independent group revealed their support for a referendum on a Council Tax rise. Whilst the Green Party is disappointed that other parties locally have been late to reach our own conclusion, we welcome their support to investigate this after the Green Party has spent three years making the case for residents to come together to save social care for older people and our children's centres."
