Green Councillor gets mis-directed ‘hate mail’ over St Clements Ward renaming
"It is not me that is suggesting abolishing St. Clement's Ward" states Green Councillor, Craig Simmons. "The proposals I, along with my Green colleagues and local residents, submitted to the Boundary Commission clearly show the continued existence of St. Clement's."
"I did suggest the renaming of an expanded St. Mary's Ward (a nearby ward that was only formed in 2000 and which includes the University running track) in honour of Oxford athlete and neurologist Sir Roger Bannister, who sadly died earlier this year. But the City's Council's Labour Group decided instead to rename St. Clement's Ward - a suggestion I opposed. St. Clement's is a long established community that extends from The Plain east along St. Clement's Street and north of the Cowley Road. I can see why residents are angry that this name might disappear - but they need to target those responsible for this and express their opposition to the Boundary Commission."

The commission has completed its first phase of work. Members can read more about it here.
A better proposal for Oxford wards
Today the Oxfordshire Green Party sent in our response to the Boundary Commission's recommendations for new wards in Oxford, the areas each councillor represents. We have a plan that better serves the communities in different parts of Oxford, compared to draft based on a Labour Party design to eliminate all opposition to them.[Read more]
Oxford East will hold a stall on behalf of OGP. This excellent annual event is organised by 'Restore', (the charity in East Oxford which provides support for mental health and recovery)
This time the theme is 'Rainforest', and they will be celebrating all things environmental with children dressing up as colourful rainforest animals in a fancy dress parade, stall holders from a range of causes, and a Rainforest Café!
If you would like to volunteer to help out on the stall - please contact Kate Robinson at: firstname.lastname@example.org
Why not take the chance to have a chat with like minded souls, by popping along to our regular get-together? On the last Friday of each month members of the Oxfordshire Green Party, friends and interested people socialise through relaxed chats or heated debates, your choice :-)
If you've never been before, call Cheryl on 07500 665207 so she can welcome you!
You can find us at a table at the back; someone might have a green party Tshirt on and/or there'll be an A4 Green Party poster propped up on the table. Or just ask at the bar for directions!
